Most leather motorcycle jackets sold online carry CE approved armour inserts but no garment certification. The Sentinel carries full EN17092-3:2020 Class AA garment certification, meaning the leather, seams, and construction have all passed independent laboratory testing for impact abrasion resistance, seam burst strength, and tear resistance. The armour is Armanox Level 2, certified to EN 1621-1:2012 at both shoulders and elbows. Both the garment and the armour inserts hold independent CE and UKCA certification for the UK and EU market.
What is CE certification on a motorcycle jacket?
CE stands for Conformite Europeenne, the European safety standard for personal protective equipment. A CE mark on a motorcycle jacket means the product has been independently tested and passed European safety requirements. For motorcycle jackets, there are two separate CE standards buyers should check.
EN17092-3:2020 certifies the entire jacket. The leather, seams, and construction are all tested. Ratings run from B (lowest) through A, AA, and AAA (highest for racing).
Standard: EN17092-3:2020The Sentinel carries Class AA garment certification, independently tested by SATRA. Above Class A (minimum for daily riding), suitable for commuting and touring.
Certified: EN17092-3:2020 AAEN 1621-1:2012 certifies the impact protectors. Level 2 absorbs significantly greater impact energy than Level 1. Both shoulder and elbow armour in the Sentinel are Level 2.

Full-grain cowhide leather at 1.1 to 1.2mm provides substantially greater abrasion resistance than PU, bonded, or synthetic leather alternatives. In a crash, genuine leather resists tearing and road rash in a way that synthetic materials cannot match. This is why professional motorcycle racing suits use cowhide leather as the primary material. The Sentinel uses 100% natural top grain cowhide throughout, and the leather quality is confirmed by the EN17092 certification label sewn inside every jacket. The hide softens and conforms to the rider over time, creating a personalised fit unique to each owner.
CE Level 2 armour at every impact zone
The Sentinel is fitted with Armanox 401 shoulder protectors and Armanox 301 elbow protectors, both independently certified to EN 1621-1:2012 Type A Level 2 by SATRA (Notified Body 2777). CE Level 2 armour absorbs significantly greater impact energy than the CE Level 1 armour supplied as standard in most leather motorcycle jackets at this price point. A dedicated back protector pocket is built into the jacket and accepts any standard CE Level 2 spine insert, sold separately. All armour is removable without tools for washing or replacement.
All season riding
The high-flow mesh inner lining keeps air circulating during warm weather, preventing heat buildup on summer commutes and touring rides. The removable 75g quilted thermal liner clips in for autumn and winter, adding warmth without bulk. One jacket covers all four seasons. Suitable for commuting, touring, cafe racer riding, cruiser riding, and everyday street use across all UK conditions. Note: leather motorcycle jackets do not include a waterproof membrane as standard. A waterproof over layer is recommended for riding in heavy rain.
